Otakon 2013

How It Was Made:

Ada Wong is one of my most beloved Resident Evil characters of all time. I fell in love with her dress from RE4 the moment I saw it. I have never made a dress before, so there are things I would love to touch up (such as the black portion on the chest)

Materials:

-Red matte satin

-Fabric Paint (white, yellow, and black)

-Grommets

-Black matte satin

-Wet-look Spandex (optional if you don't want to use the black matte satin)

The dress was interesting to make. It is comprised of three separate pieces. I drafted this pattern by laying down a dress I already own and traced it. This is the first time I did not seam-rip something to create a pattern! I made alterations for the slit up the leg, cut in the front of the dress, and the strap (because my dress is strapless).

The black part on the chest was hard to do and I'm going to just re-make them at some point, so please disregard those haha! I made them out of black matte satin and hand-drew the pattern.

The design on the side of the dress was completely hand-painted by me. I used some black fabric paint (that acts like a dye that I was going to use for Jill) along with white and yellow. I drew on the design with a pencil beforehand and then went over it all with paint.

The back of the dress has grommets in it. I would recommend getting a grommet tool (I got mine for around $15 at Michaels) so you don't have to hammer them in. I have more grommets on the back of my dress than Ada's does, but it was hard to find any photos of the back of her dress! I then used black wet-look Spandex for the "ribbon" to close off the dress in the back. The matte satin kept getting caught in the grommets so I decided to use the Spandex because it is stretchy and more comfortable. I also used the Spandex for the crosses on her shoes. I just cut those and used contact cement to keep them on the shoes.

There is also a Victoria's Secret Bombshell Bra sewn into the dress so I have some protection haha. I couldn't use the bra anymore because the band size was too big, so I just sewed it into my dress. The black ribbon choker was hand-drafted and made out of black matte satin. It just easily ties around my neck. I didn't bother with the silver circle that keeps her ribbon "tied" because I just wanted to tie it.

The gun holster is only wrapped around my leg, rather than having a garter holster. It has no-slip rubber on it, but I still have to clasp it very tightly, so I do get bruises on my leg from it. It is a universal gun holster I got on eBay, so hopefully it can hold the new replica guns I got! The gun I have in the photo is a cheap non-functioning airsoft gun with a laser pointer and flashlight. In the future I will be using my replica Desert Eagle because the Lightning Hawk (aka L. Hawk) is my favorite gun in the game and was based on the Desert Eagle. Ada does not use the Desert Eagle, but...it looks better than the dinky little gun I got for Otakon haha! Oh and the wig is from eBay and I styled it a bit :).
